Identity: who are you?
I was 18 when I learned about 42 — the ultimate answer life, the universe and everything. But I really wish finding answers to life’s question could be a simple as an integer. These days, I don’t think/worry too much about it because I found rest and peace — I hope you do too.
But you’re not alone in the quest to find answers to these numerous life questions. Since the days of the Tower of Babel till now and this has translated into science in its various subject areas: biology, astronomy, geology, palaeontology, engineering, chemistry and physics.
Life is complex and nothing is as straightforward as you would imagine or want it to be. The uncertainties, the dynamics, and variables don’t make it any easy to predict events in the continuous time-space where we exist as beings. In all of these, we rely on law, religion and culture as a way to find guidance, calibration and moderation for ourselves and others.
Religion, culture and law creates the value systems that define us — our identity. But I’ve argued that we only begin to live by questioning the imposed identity and holding true to the elements we believe define us and this, I call this conviction.
Growing up, my identity was shaped by culture and religion but now it’s now based on my spiritual belief— Christianity. I believe my identity is a man in Christ, living in this temporary place (world) and on a mission to make the world a better place for everyone in my time. To achieve that, I’m an entrepreneur, husband, dad, son, brother, friend, tenant, boss, colleague, and citizen.
Have you found yourself yet? If yes, who are you? I’d love to meet you.
If you’re still trying to figure it out, tell me about your journey so far.
Cheers!
God loves you!
